Lake Bolzer in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is located south of Bolz ( Mustin municipality ) in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in western Mecklenburg in a terminal moraine . It has a length of around 1.5 kilometers, a width of 0.8 km and an average depth of 6.5 meters. The lake is divided into a western and an eastern part by a peninsula and a larger forested island is located in the western part. The shores of the lake are bordered by a continuous belt of reeds and consist predominantly of wooded steep slopes, which are joined by agricultural areas. In the west, a black alder forest borders the lake.
The entire lake, including the shoreline region, has been designated as a nature reserve Bolzer See since 1967 , as there was a colony of cormorants and gray herons on an island in the western section until 2012 . The breeding population of the cormorants comprised 294 pairs at that time. The Cormorant Report MV 2013 states that this colony, which housed around 800 BP at its strongest time, has meanwhile expired. This cormorant colony had existed since 1964, making it the oldest in the interior of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is assumed that the animals have moved to the Krakower Obersee, 21 kilometers away, on which a comparably large colony has emerged at the same time as the successive disappearance of the cormorants from Lake Bolz. A reason for the presumed move is not known.
The Bolzer See belongs to an FFH area and is located in the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park .
