The Plauer Stadtwald nature reserve is a 315 hectare nature reserve in southern Mecklenburg.

location

The nature reserve is located in the south of Plau am See . Between its western border and the (disused) Güstrow – Meyenburg railway line, the Lökengrund, the Burgsee, the Gaarzer See, the Ziegeleisee and the brickworks are located from south to north. To the east of federal highway 103 are the Große Steinkamp and the residential area Plötzenhöhe on the Plauer See (Mecklenburg) . In the south, the nature reserve ends in the area of the Appelburg fur farm, which was dissolved in 1990 . The meadows in the north are private or state property.

The nature reserve was designated on February 16, 1996. The state of the area is assessed as good; however, the lakes are polluted by nutrient inputs from neighboring agricultural areas. The meadows have been used extensively as hay meadows since 1996 . The beech forests are used for forestry purposes. There are several ways to enter the areas. The Plauer Stadtwald is a local recreation area . A nature trail provides information about the special features of the area. In the area are four small lakes (Ziegeleisee, Griepensee, Kuhlensee, Lebersee) and two larger lakes (Gaarzer See, Burgsee). The "trace of the magic stones", the western part of the 10 km long circular hiking trail, leads to Appelburg. There you can stop in a café.
