The great sedum plant ( Hylotelephium telephium (L.) H. Ohba , Syn .: Sedum telephium L. ) is a species of the genus Hylotelephium in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae). The great sedum plant is a collective species , i.e. the amalgamation of several previously individually described, closely related small species. The species occurs in almost all of Europe and grows mainly on dry locations such as walls, rocks, dry forests or fields.
description
The great sedum plant is a succulent perennial that reaches heights of 25 to 50 cm, has an upright, bare stem and thick, beet-shaped rhizomes . The leaves are oblong-ovate and unevenly serrated.
The greenish to yellow or purple flowers appear in July to September. In autumn, the above-ground parts of the plant die off, while the thickened roots and hibernating buds survive and allow them to sprout quickly in spring.
The species has chromosome numbers 2n = 24, 36 or 48.
The hover fly Cheilosia semifasciata is a leaf miner of the great sedum plant.
Systematics
The following subspecies are distinguished in the species Hylotelephium telephium :
- The Great stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp. Maximum (L.) H.Ohba , Syn .: Sedum telephium subsp. Maximum (L.) Krocker , Sedum maximum (L.) Hoffm. ): With mostly yellow-green flowers, egg-shaped upper stalk leaves with weak base surrounding the stalk.
- The red sedum or purple sedum ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp. Telephium , syn .: Sedum telephium subsp. Purpureum (L.) Hartm. , Sedum telephium L. s. Str., Sedum purpurascens W.DJ Koch ) with pink- red , above the In the middle, the petals are bent back and the upper stalk leaves are elongated, lanceolate, opposite to one another, with a wedge-shaped base. On stony soils and rocks, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.
- The mountain stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp. Fabaria (WDJ Koch) H.Ohba , Syn .: Sedum telephium subsp. Fabaria (WDJ Koch) Kirschl. , Sedum fabaria W.DJ Koch ) with purple, straight petals and alternate, elongated petals - lanceolate upper stem leaves that are narrowed at the base like a stalk. On damp and shady rocks in Central and Western Europe.
- The High stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp. Ruprechtii (Jalas) H.Ohba , Syn .: Sedum telephium sensu Boriss. , Hylotelephium maximum . Subsp ruprechtii (Jalas) Dostál ) with bright yellow flowers and stalks comprehensive leaves. Occurs in Europe in the east and northeast.
