history

Koechow

Körchow is mentioned for the first time in 1194 as Kurchowe in the Isfried partition contract . The Romanesque stone church was built in the middle of the 13th century . It is mentioned as early as 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register , which lists the localities that were then part of the Ratzeburg diocese, sorted by parishes . With its up to 2.6 meter thick walls in the tower and the loopholes-like windows, it gives the impression of a medieval fortified church , but was neither built for this purpose nor used as such.

In the years 1734/35, the satirist Christian Ludwig Liscow, who was born in Wittenburg, was briefly employed as the manager of the von Clausenheim family . In the church of Körchow there are various references to the family, such as a monogram on the pulpit, a coat of arms with the year 1761 on the gallery and an epitaph for Johann Heinrich von Clausenheim .

Until the 1930s the place was a manor village and was then settled, that is, divided into peasant farms for settlement. Forty new farmer positions were created. So Körchow has never been part of a family.

The Körchow manor is built in the style of an English manor house. After the Second World War, the upper floors of the older building were removed, the ground floor gutted and used as a fertilizer store. It later became a dance hall for the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG). The newer part was used for residential purposes until 1972, the community office and the LPG kitchen were housed in it and at times also the kindergarten. In 1976 this part was also removed down to the ground floor and largely rebuilt on a single floor. The manor house was used as a restaurant until 2002. In 2007, the new owners acquired the property and expanded it into a regional event location. Gut Körchow is also the clubhouse of the Griese Umgebung eV and, with INOSCENO, the Internet and Open Source Center North, has been the contact point for fans of open source software since the beginning of 2011 .

On May 25, 2014, Körchow was incorporated into Wittenburg together with Lehsen .

Zühr

Like Körchow and Perdöhl, Zühr was also mentioned in a document for the first time in 1194 in the Isfried partition agreement. Since the 14th century, Zühr was the Mecklenburg family estate of the von Züle family from Lauenburg . In the center of Zühr is the Zühr mansion , built around 1740 for the Saxon-Polish field marshal von Zühlen (Züle) in half-timbered construction . Broadly supported with thirteen axles and two storeys, the manor house has a high hipped roof. The center is accentuated by a three-axis central projection with a flat gable triangle. Above the door a coat of arms shows three oak leaves on a branch. It is the coat of arms of the von Graevenitz family , who owned Gut Zühr from 1830. In the 19th century changes were made to the gables and on the park side of the manor house; the name and the date C. v. Chr. G. (Graevenitz) in 1863. The von Graevenitz family sold the estate to a settlement company in 1930.

During the reign of the National Socialists, the manor house was used by the Association of German Girls . In GDR times it was used as a retirement home. After extensive renovation work, the house now houses a living, working and living community St. Josef of Caritas Mecklenburg eV

To the west of the manor house, in the adjacent park, there is a hill of an abandoned tower castle surrounded by water , to which a small bridge leads. The former school building, which was expanded around 1930, is now used as a community center.

Most of the farms were built in the course of the expansion of the military training area through resettlement to Mecklenburg between 1936 and 1942, which can also be seen in their almost identical construction.

coat of arms

Koechow coat of arms
Blazon : “A curved golden tip in red, topped with a red church tower with a round window, closed arched gate and hipped roof as well as a black high cross; in front a golden sheaf of corn; behind a golden horse's trunk. "

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Karl-Heinz Steinbruch . It was approved on June 9, 1999 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under number 191 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms symbolizes the three districts from the shield division. The church tower, for example, stands for the structure that defines the Körchow district, the field stone church with the massive tower built around the middle of the 13th century. The sheaf is intended to symbolize the traditional harvest festivals in Zühr, which represent annual highlights in the life of the village community. The horse's trunk represents the district of Perdöhl with the equestrian sport practiced there. When it was incorporated into the city of Wittenburg on May 25, 2014, the municipal coat of arms lost its status as a national emblem. However, it can still be used by the residents as an identification symbol and as a sign of solidarity with their place.

The flag was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on November 22, 2000.

The flag is evenly striped lengthways in yellow and red. In the middle of the flag, two thirds of the height of the yellow and red stripes, the district coat of arms is located. The length of the flag is related to the height as 5: 3.

Personalities

Theodor Kliefoth , the most important theologian in Mecklenburg church history, was born on January 18, 1810 in Körchow. The Paulskirche in Schwerin was built according to his spiritual guidelines . Today a street in Körchow is named after him.
