The St. Abundus Church in Lassahn is the parish church of the parish of Lassahn , which is part of the Parchim parish . The listed building is located about 350 meters east of the Lassahner See, part of the Schaalsee , in the Zarrentin district of Lassahn in the west of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

history

The first mention of the place Lassahn in the Ratzeburg tithe register comes from 1230. The start of construction of the church consecrated to Saint Abundus is estimated to be between 1190 and 1250. Its oldest surviving part, the square choir with the sacristy made of field stone , dates from around 1240. The windows with the pointed arches, the wall template for the priest's door and the edging of the three-window group in the east wall are made of brick.

The nave from the 17th century was built as a half-timbered structure . The northern side of the nave consists of a plastered brick wall with stepped buttresses .

The lakeside wooden paneled western part in half-timbered with the tower was built around 1740. Above the square tower top with the bell tower is an octagonal, pointed tower helmet .

A gold-colored ball with a cock from 1980 above it forms the top of the church tower. The predecessor was shot from the top at a victory ceremony for British soldiers in 1945.

The village and church historically belonged to the Duchy of Lauenburg , but came into the Soviet-occupied zone with the Barber-Lyashchenko Agreement . The parish still belonged legally to the state superintendent of Lauenburg, but was assigned to the Mecklenburg regional church at the beginning of 1989.

There is a burial place for the von Bernstorff family in the churchyard .

Parish

The parish belonged to the parish of Neuenkirchen after the construction of the chapel around 1230 and was soon afterwards only temporarily an independent parish church, then a subsidiary church of Neuenkirchen. After 1782 she became self-employed.

The Ev.-Luth. Lassahn parish with 155 parishioners (around 2019) is now part of the Parchim provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany . The parish includes the places Bernstorf , Hakendorf, Lassahn, Stintenburg, Stintenburginsel , Stintenburger Hütte and Techin ( north church ). The parishes of Döbbersen, Lassahn and Neuenkirchen are connected in a parish district .
The church includes the surrounding cemetery with the small mourning hall and the burial place of Count v. Bernstorff.

The church was named after the patron saint Abundus (also Habundus ), who fought against Islam in Córdoba around 854 and was beheaded ( martyrs of Córdoba ); and St. Abundus in Groden (Cuxhaven) has the same patronage.
