Bergrade is a district of the municipality of Duvensee in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein .

history

The first written mention of the village of Bergrade comes from 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register , one of the oldest peasant documents in Germany. The name variants are 1230 Bercroth , 1394 Bakrod , 1406 Berkrode , 1424 Berkrod and 1855 Bergrade . The name Bergrade suggests that there is a German settlement here, for in the 12th century by the settlers birch trees cut down were because Berke translates birch and Rode (Rade) clearing . Around 1240 Bergrade belonged to the Lords of Ritzerau , who sold it to the Lübeck citizen Vromoldt Warendorp in 1394 . The villages owned by Lübschen were not only an investment, but were also intended to protect the old freight routes of the salt roads .

In 1418 Bergrade passed into the possession of the Marienwohlde monastery . In terms of office, however, it largely belongs to Ratzeburg . The register of the Turkish treasure from 1545 writes that the mountain farmers have to pay 620 marks for the fight against the Turks. Around 1700 the village consisted of three Vollhufen and seven Kätnern . It is said about the condition: The soil in Bergrade is cold and full of wild flowers. You can only sow rye and most of the oats. The hosts are mediocre. It is bad pasture, but not wild hooves .

The coupling is carried out in 1772–1779 . The arable, meadow and forest areas will be redistributed, combined into larger fields and straightened. After that, the village consists of three full hooves, four quarter hooves, two farmers , a shepherd's hut , a blacksmith's shop and an inn. The first power supply comes to the village in 1913. In 1938 Bergrade was incorporated into the municipality of Duvensee .
