Jacovce (German Jatzowitz , Hungarian JAC ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 1,751 (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Topoľčany , a circle of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern Danube hill country (part of the Slovak Danube lowlands ) on the Chotina brook , a tributary of Nitra . The center of the village is at an altitude of 193 m nm and is located six kilometers northwest of Topoľčany .
history
Today's community was created in 1903 through the merger of the places Malé Jacovce (German Kleinjatzowitz ), Veľké Jacovce (German Großjatzowitz ) and Zemianske Jacovce (German Nemeschjatzowitz ). The first written mention comes from 1224.
1944–1949 Jacovce was part of the neighboring municipality Tovarníky and 1976–1990 part of the city of Topoľčany.
