Kovarce (until 1927 Slovak "Kovarce" or "Kovárovce"; German Kowarz or Kowaritz , Hungarian Kovarc - in the 19th century also Kovárc ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,592 (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Topoľčany , a circle of the Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located on the eastern edge of the Nitrianska pahorkatina (part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands ) on the left bank of the Nitra, below the Tribeč Mountains . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 164 m nm and is nine kilometers south of Topoľčany .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1280 as Koarch . The village initially belonged to the Ludányi family , then to the Oponice castle , in 1415 Sigismund of Luxembourg let the village lease to Csetneky , until the 20th century families like Motesic , Berényi , Forgách and Apponyi had estates in Kovarce. Turkish raids during the Turkish Wars in the 16th and 17th centuries slowed the economic development of the village. In 1715 vineyards and 16 households are mentioned, in 1787 there were 91 houses and 824 inhabitants and finally in 1828 116 houses and 811 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in agriculture, weaving and basket making. In 1864 a sugar factory was built here.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1581 inhabitants in Kovarce, of whom 1533 were Slovaks, 11 Magyars and others. 26 residents gave no information. 1290 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, the denomination of 126 residents has not been determined, 108 residents were non-denominational and 39 residents belonged to the Evangelical Church AB,

Infrastructure
In Kovarce the basic infrastructure is well developed, with existing gas and water pipes as well as a sewerage system, only a connection to the cable television network is missing. There is a kindergarten, a primary school, a library and a post office. The 2nd order road 593 ( Nitra - Dražovce - Partizánske ) runs through the village , the connection to the 1st order road 64 (Nitra - Topoľčany - Prievidza ) is in Ludanice, three kilometers away . There is also a train station on the Nové Zámky – Prievidza railway line .
