Práznovce (until 1973 Slovak "Práznovce"; German Prasnowitz , Hungarian Práznóc ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 969 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Topoľčany , a circle of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the hilly Nitrianska pahorkatina , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . More precisely, it is located on a corridor terrace between the Vyčoma and Dršňa brooks , on the left bank of the Nitra . On the opposite bank, the Bebrava flows into the river. The municipality protrudes with a narrow tip into the main ridge of the Tribeč Mountains. The center of the village is at an altitude of 169 m nm and is five kilometers from Topoľčany .
Neighboring municipalities are Krušovce in the north, Bošany in the northeast and east, Krnča , Zlatno and Velčice in the southeast, Solčany in the south and Topoľčany in the west.
history
Práznovce was first mentioned in writing in 1183 as Proznouch . Other historical names are Prezniche (1287), Preznolch (1354), Praznolch (1401) and Praznowce (1773). At first the village was in the territory of the Neutra Castle , later it was owned by the oligarch Matthäus Csák , and in 1326 the local Práznóczi family owned the majority of the local estates . Later ownership changed between different families of the lower nobility. In 1556 the village had six portals and a mill, in 1715 eight households lived in the village. In 1828 there were 38 houses and 267 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1976 to 1996 Práznovce was part of the city of Topoľčany.

According to the 2011 census, there were 962 inhabitants in Práznovce, including 910 Slovaks , five Magyars and two each from Poles , Roma and Czechs . Two residents indicated a different ethnic group and 39 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
829 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 11 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, eight residents to the Greek Catholic Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 55 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 57 inhabitants was not determined.
