Zlatno is a small municipality in the west-center of Slovakia with 211 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Zlaté Moravce , a district of the Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is enclosed on three sides by the Tribetz Mountains (Slov. Tribeč), only to the south does the view of the Danube hill country open up . The Stráňka stream flows through the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 327 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Zlaté Moravce .
history
The village was first mentioned in writing as Zaltine in 1156 and was named after a medieval gold panning process . It belonged to the estates of Gýmeš , Topoľčianky , the Pauline order of Lefantovce and the Jesenský family . As before, it remains an agricultural place to this day. The inhabitants took an active part in the Slovak National Uprising in 1944; at the end of the year, two Soviet Lisunov Li-2 aircraft crashed, killing 22 people.
