Skýcov (Hungarian Kico - until 1907 Szkicó ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 971 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the circle Okres Zlaté Moravce , part of Nitriansky kraj heard and in the traditional landscape Tekov lies.

geography

The village is located in the Tribetz Mountains near the watershed between the tributaries of Nitra and Žitava . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 458  m nm and is 15 kilometers from Zlaté Moravce and 21 kilometers from Partizánske .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1359 as Zquiteu and belonged to the estate of the Hrušov Castle , in the 17th century to that of Topoľčianky . In 1601 there was a mill and 33 houses here; In 1828 there were 88 houses and 598 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in the local lime kiln.

Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the Slovak National Uprising in World War II there was brisk partisan activity. On March 16, 1945 the entire village was destroyed by the Wehrmacht, a total of 240 houses burned down. After the end of the war, Skýcov was rebuilt.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1,031 inhabitants in Skýcov, including 965 Slovaks, six Czechs, three Magyars and one German and one Moravian. 55 residents did not provide any information. 884 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents to the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents to the Evangelistic Church and one resident each to the Greek Catholic, Reformed and Evangelical Methodist Church; nine residents were of other denominations. 47 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 73 inhabitants has not been determined.
