Slepčany (German Sleptschan , Hungarian Szelepcsény ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 800 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the circle Okres Zlaté Moravce , part of Nitriansky kraj , heard, and in the traditional landscape Tekov lies.

The municipality is located between the hilly lands Žitavská pahorkatina west and Pohronská pahorkatina east of Slepčany, both parts of the Slovak Danube lowlands , at the end of the upper reaches of Žitava , which flows east of the place. The built-up area is bordered from the west by the Čerešňový creek , which is dammed up into a lake above the village. The municipality is flat to hilly and has mostly brown soils. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 160 m nm and is eight and a half kilometers from Vráble and 11 kilometers from Zlaté Moravce .
Neighboring municipalities are Vieska nad Žitavou in the north, Červený Hrádok in the east, Nevidzany in the southeast, Nová Ves nad Žitavou in the south, Malé Chyndice in the west and Beladice in the northwest.
history
The municipality of Slepčany was settled in the Neolithic Age and was home to a Lengyel culture settlement as well as an early medieval settlement from the 11th and 12th centuries.
The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1165 as Selepchen , when a certain Forcus transferred the entire local property to the Abbey of Hronský Beňadik . A list of the duties of subjects towards the abbey from 1245 has been handed down. In 1536 Slepčany had a total of 10 porta , in 1565 the property came into the hands of the Gran Chapter. In 1601 the village had a mill and 46 houses. During the 17th century, Slepčany was devastated several times by the Ottoman troops. In 1828 there were 88 houses and 598 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as farmers.
Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the 1920s, the previous church properties were parceled out.

According to the 2011 census, 846 inhabitants lived in Slepčany, of whom 818 were Slovaks , four Magyars , two Czechs and one German , one Moravian and one Ukrainian . 19 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
753 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Apostolic Church and one resident each to the Jewish community, the Orthodox Church and the Reformed Church. 29 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 58 inhabitants.
