Zlaté Moravce (German Goldmorawitz , Hungarian Aranyosmarót - until 1877 Aranyosmaróth ) is a town in central Slovakia and gives a district its name.
location
The place lies in a basin-like indentation of the Tribetzgebirge open to the south and is divided into the three parts of the municipality Chyzerovce (incorporated in 1970; German Hiserowitz , Hungarian Hizér ), Prílepy (incorporated in 1960; German Landshof , Hungarian Perlep ) and Zlaté Moravce. From 1975 to 2002 the municipality of Žitavany also belonged to the town.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1113 as villa Morowa ("City of Moravia ") and suffered severe damage during the Turkish wars. However, the development of craft guilds brought an upswing to the city that has shaped it to this day.
