history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1185 as Sarfew , when a certain Stojslav left the small estate to the monastery at Zobor. In the 15th century the property belonged to the nobles of Ludanice . At that time there was a small castle in the parish; she also had the right to hold a market on Wednesdays. From the modern era until the abolition of serfdom, the following genders or families were landowners: first the estate of Lewenz , then Solymós and Esterházy (16th century), Héderváry , Hunyadi (17th century), Vay , Plathy , Pálffy and the Diocese of Neutra (18th century) Century) and Zerdahely , Leonhard and others in the 19th century. In 1787 the village had 81 houses and 543 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 92 houses and 638 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and fruit growing. There was also a saw in town.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
Surname
The name indicates a wet or swampy terrain, since Slovak blato and Hungarian sár can be translated with the German word mud . In 1948 the Hungarian name Šarfia was changed to Nitrianska Blatnica (after location near Nitra , as a place called Blatnica already existed) for national political reasons .
