Preseľany (until 1927 Slovak and "Preserany"; Hungarian Nyitrapereszlény - until the 19th century only Pereszlény ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,433 (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Topoľčany , a circle of Nitriansky kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the middle of the hilly Nitrianska pahorkatina , a part of the Slovak Danube lowlands , on the middle reaches of the Nitra . The center of the village is at an altitude of 155  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Topoľčany and 20 kilometers from Nitra .

Neighboring municipalities are Kamanová and Belince in the north, Oponice in the east, Horné Lefantovce in the southeast, Hrušovany in the south, Hruboňovo in the west and Čermany in the north-west.

history

There was a settlement in today's municipal area between the 10th and 12th centuries.

The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1280 as Prezlen and in the Middle Ages belonged to the estate of the nearby Oponice Castle and at times to the Ludányi family . In the 16th century the property came into the hands of the Osztrosics family , then Apponyi between the 17th and 19th centuries and partly Zay , Ujfalussy and Prileszky .

St. Elizabeth Church

In 1598 there were 78 houses in Preseľany. In 1646 the place received market and town rights, but the upswing was rather limited and in 1787 at the latest the rights were lost. In 1668 the town was sacked by a Turkish army. At the beginning of the 18th century, Preseľany was the seat of a manor to which six other places belonged. In 1715 there were vineyards and 25 households, in 1828 there were 122 houses and 949 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and winemakers.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Preseľany had 1,482 inhabitants, 1,426 of whom were Slovaks , three Magyars and one Russian and one Czech . Three residents indicated a different ethnic group and 48 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

1317 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, five residents the Evangelical Church AB, four residents the Reformed Church, three residents each for the Greek Catholic Church and the Pentecostal Movement, two residents each for the Apostolic Church and the Orthodox Church and one resident for the Czechoslovak Church Hussite Church; five residents professed a different denomination. 46 residents had no denomination and 94 residents had no denomination.
