Location of the community of Molfsee in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district
map

Molfsee is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein and borders directly on the state capital Kiel to the south . It consists of the three districts Molfsee, Rammsee and Schulensee. The municipality conducts the administrative business of the office of the same name .

Geography and traffic

The community is located directly on the southern outskirts of Kiel , a good bit west of the federal highway 215 from Kiel to Neumünster and north and east surrounded by the river Eider . It consists from north to south of the three districts Schulensee, Rammsee and Molfsee (village). In the area of the Molfsee district, there are two of the eponymous lakes, the Molfsee and the Rammsee ; the Schulensee lies on the northern boundary of the municipality and is traversed by the Eider.

history

Molfsee was first mentioned in 1238 in a document from Count Adolph IV of Holstein . It initially consisted of twelve hooves , but was reduced to seven hooves during the 14th century by the plague . The village of Schulendorf in the area of what is now the Schulensee district was also given up during this period . At the beginning of the 15th century, Molfsee and a few other villages were sold by Marquard von Knoop to the Bordesholm monastery .

In the area of the closed school village , the Schulhof estate was then founded by the monastery and existed for several centuries. In the 1920s, the estate's land was parceled out and the villa town of Schulensee was created there. The manor house was demolished in 1938. The site was later acquired by the Evangelical City Mission in Kiel; the retirement home, which had been in operation there for several decades, stood empty for a few years and was demolished in 2014. A condominium complex has now been built on the property.

An important step in the development of Molfsee was the opening of Altona-Kieler Chaussee , which was built in 1832 near the town through the municipality. In the years that followed, the center of the town shifted more and more from the old village street to the new Chaussee.

After the Second World War , the population grew rapidly, first through refugees, then through economic growth. Heavy construction activity began in the Schulensee and Rammsee districts in particular. Since the new districts pass without settlement gap in the city of Kiel and little in common with the agrarian Molfsee had, there were considerations in the 1970s, the districts or the whole place to Kiel einzugemeinden .
