Louisenlund

Louisenlund

The classicistic castle of Louisenlund on the Große Breite der Schlei , which is located in an extensive English park, was built between 1772 and 1776 as the summer residence of Landgrave Carl von Hessen . The architect Hermann von Motz expanded it considerably around 1790 and, among other things, added an orangery. The building got its current appearance under the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.

Today Louisenlund is a boarding school as the Louisenlund Foundation , which was founded in 1949 as a state-recognized, privately owned grammar school and from which well-known sailing enthusiasts emerged. Despite several renovations, some special features have also been preserved inside, such as the stucco ceilings in the manor house.

To the west of the estate, the remains of a farm from the 17th century with outbuildings from the 18th century are still preserved today.
