Karby is a municipality in Schwansen in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Krähenberg, Marienthal and Köllnerfeld are in the municipality.
Geography and traffic
Karby is located between the Schlei and the Baltic Sea about five kilometers south of Kappeln in Schwansen. The federal road 203 from Kappeln to Eckernförde runs through the municipality. Three bus lines connect Karby to the neighboring communities as well as Kappeln and Eckernförde at two stops.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1278. The place name comes from the Danish ( Karkby ) and means church village .
The early Gothic brick church in the middle of the village was built around 1300. The tower was added later. During restoration work, a tomb was discovered under the altar. To the east of the church is a large cemetery around which two Protestant kindergartens, a primary school and two sports fields are grouped. There was a school in Karby as early as 1700.
The community has been independent since 1876. From 1948 until the office was dissolved in 1969, it was the seat of the North Swansen administrative office.
Until 1958, the operated Eckernförder orbits the railway Eckernförde Kappeln whose passenger trains made Nüser stop in Karby at the inn and railway hotel.

Of the ten seats in the municipal council, the CDU had five seats since the 2008 local elections, the KWK electoral community had three and the SPD two seats.
Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the CDU has five seats since the 2013 local elections, the SPD three and the KWK electoral community has two. In its constituent meeting, the municipal council elected Klaus-Dieter Möse (SPD) as its new mayor.

Blazon : "divided slightly lowered from gold and blue, above a red church, down a red reinforced silver swan two silver shaft threads." Instead of a coat of arms used the church until 2008 in official correspondence a logo that the Karbyer Church and the Brodersbyer Windmill depicted.

The list of cultural monuments in Karby includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of the state of Schleswig-Holstein: Church with furnishings, churchyard, linden wreath, churchyard gate and tombs until 1870.
