Location of the municipality of Borgdorf-Seedorf in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district | ||
Borgsdorf-Seedorf is a municipality of the Office Nortorfer Land in Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein .
Geography and traffic
The community is located on Lake Borgdorfer in the southwest of the Westensee Nature Park , about 23 km southwest of Kiel . It can be reached via Bundesstraße 205 , Bundesautobahn 7 and the Neumünster – Flensburg railway line (via Rendsburg ). In addition to Borgdorf and Seedorf, there is also the district of Springwedel.
history
Numerous barrows indicate that the municipality was already settled in the Neolithic . An urn field has been preserved from the Iron Age . At the beginning of November 2017, archaeologists came across the remains of the first Saxon settlement documented in Schleswig-Holstein with pit houses about four by four meters in size during the preliminary investigation of a building site . However, the community sees itself unable to bear the costs of an excavation.
Borgdorf was first mentioned in 1320 as Borctorpe , Seedorf in 1361 as Sedorp . Borgdorf is probably named after a fortification built by the Saxons against the Slavs , which was probably built in the 9th or 10th century. There are hardly any traces of this defensive structure; presumably it resembled Wittorf Castle in Neumünster or Margarethenschanze in Einfeld .
The political community Borgdorf-Seedorf was formed in 1867.
