Geography and traffic

Bokel is about 14 km southwest of Rendsburg and can be reached via the L 328 (formerly Bundesstraße 205 ), the federal motorway 7 and the Neumünster – Flensburg railway line (via Nortorf , Bokel no longer has its own train station). The 3230 bus line connects Bokel several times a day with the surrounding communities and the train stations in Neumünster , Rendsburg and Nortorf. At these three stations there is a connection to a regional express, which runs every hour. This connects Neumünster in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein via Nortorf, Rendsburg, Owschlag , Schleswig , Jübek and Tarp with Flensburg on the Danish border and also runs in the other direction (from Flensburg to Neumünster).

history

The place is first mentioned in the middle of the 13th century as Boclo ( beech grove ). In Bokel there had been a forced water mill since 1589 , in which all residents of the parish had to have their grain ground until the middle of the 19th century. In 1832 a windmill was also built because the Bokeler Au did not always have enough water to reliably drive the mill. Today the watermill has become a normal residential building that houses an eel museum.

The memorial near Bokel is a memorial near the site that commemorates three soldiers who were killed in the crash of a Messerschmitt Me 110 during the Second World War .
