Groß Wittensee ( Danish : Store Vittensø) is a municipality in the Hüttener Berge district in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein . Brandenhorst, Eksal, Felsenrade, Hoheluft, Jürgensrade, Kirchhorst, Langhorst, Langstücke, Magarn, Neubrück, Överdiek, Schanze, Schlauck, Söhr, Timmermeß, Wittenseeholz, Wohldmaas, Haberkoppel and Börm are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Groß Wittensee is about 14 km east of Rendsburg and 8 km west of Eckernförde am Wittensee on the edge of the Danish Wohlds in the Hüttener Berge nature reserve . The federal highway 203 from Rendsburg to Eckernförde runs through the municipality.

Community representation

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the CDU had six seats since the local elections in 2003, while the SPD and an electoral community each had three. After the 2008 local elections, the CDU had five seats, the SPD four and the FWG two seats.

Of the twelve seats in the municipal council, the CDU has had five seats since the 2013 local elections, the SPD has three and the BfW and FWG electoral groups have two seats each. This distribution of seats remained unchanged in the 2018 local elections.

The list of cultural monuments in Groß Wittensee includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of Schleswig-Holstein. The memorial for the 33 and 46 war dead of both world wars is located under a large oak tree in Dorfstrasse between the pharmacy (Dorfstrasse 50) and the school (Dorfstrasse 48). In Kirchhorst are the well-preserved remains of a flax kiln and the hare barg bunker , which serves as a bat quarter.

Personalities

  • The painter Carl Lambertz (1910–1996) lived and worked in Groß Wittensee from 1949 until his death in 1996. Lambertz's wife Maria Reese (* 1942) lives and works in the shared studio.
