Brekendorf (Low German Brekendkörper , Danish Brekentorp ) is a municipality in the Hüttener Mountains in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Lehmberg, Tyrol, Saar, Grevensberg, Moor, Trollbek, Hammer, Nordholz, Westerholz, Lehmrade, Holzhof and Jettmark are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Brekendorf is about eleven kilometers south of Schleswig and fifteen kilometers north of Rendsburg on the A 7 , exit Owschlag / Brekendorf / Kropp.

Due to the glacial deposits of the Ice Age, the municipality is very stony, which has always made agricultural use difficult, but it also has some moors.

The Scheelsberg, which was also formed during the Ice Age, is 106 meters high and is the highest point in the Schleswig region. The Heidberg is protected as a natural monument because of its rare vegetation.

The Rammsee, located in the municipality, was also created as a dead ice hole in the Ice Age.

history

During excavations in the municipality, an ornamental disk made of bronze was found, which was probably around 800 BC. Was made.

Stones quarried in the municipality were used, among other things, to fortify the banks of the Kiel Canal and to build the Hindenburg dam , which connects Sylt with the mainland.

military

Brekendorf is a Bundeswehr location . In accordance with the deployment decisions of the Bundeswehr in October 2011, a part of the Luftwaffe's detached technical train 245 is stationed here and operates a phased array radar system of the type GM 406F for air defense.

The coat of arms was approved on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the municipality in 1996. The ant refers to the folk tale that the place was torn down due to an ant plague and rebuilt in another place, which should also explain the place name: afbreken is the Low German word for break off. The Dreiberg symbolizes the location of the place on the edge of the Hüttener Mountains. The decorative disk is a find during excavations in the municipality. The disk was probably around 800 BC. Manufactured. The tinging corresponds to the colors of the Schleswig region in which the municipality is located.
