coat of arms
Blazon : "Split by green and gold, on it a rooted deciduous tree in mixed colors, accompanied by an ear of corn on the right and a cattail on the left."
economy
The employment situation, which was originally dominated by agriculture, has changed fundamentally since the 1970s, as in almost all villages. Of the formerly more than 15 farms, only three are currently (as of 2018) in full-time employment. Several medium-sized businesses are located in the village center. In 2003, an industrial park was designated in the direction of Bordesholm, which has been expanded since 2018. Since the end of 2013, at the junction Bordesholm A7 a truck stop with petrol station, truck stop and fast food restaurant in operation.
Bog corpse
The Great Moor lies in the triangle of the municipalities Dätgen - Loop - Schülp . In the past, peat was extracted there; this economic use was discontinued in 2010.
While digging peat in 1959, the trunk of a 30-year-old man who had been sunk in the bog in the second century was found. The severed head was discovered in 1960, about 30 meters from the body. The bog body from Dätgen wears the typical hairstyle of the Suebi , a Suebi knot . The condition was so good that samples from the stomach, small intestine and rectum showed the composition of the last meal. The man was seriously injured several times, killed with a stab in the heart and then beheaded.
The bog body is now in the Archaeological State Museum, Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, in the exhibition section “Death and the Beyond”.
