Neuwittenbek ( Danish : Ny Vittenbæk , Low German : Niewittenbek ) is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Altwittenbek, Fahrenhorst, Levensau and Warleberg-Landwehr are in the municipality. The place name means New White Brook .
Geography and traffic
Neuwittenbek is located directly northwest of Kiel on the Kiel Canal . The federal highway 76 runs northeast from Kiel to Eckernförde .
The Neuwittenbek station on the Kiel – Flensburg railway line, which opened in 1881, is manned for reasons of railway operations, but since 1987 no passenger trains have stopped there. As part of the StadtRegionalBahn Kiel project, which has now been partially closed, it was planned to restart light rail trains.
In 1923, the Neuwittenbek – Kiel Schusterkrug railway was opened and only serves goods traffic.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. From the 16th century until it became independent in 1876, the community belonged to the Warleberg estate, which is now part of the municipality.

The estate was first mentioned in 1305. Today it is operated as a farm with an attached restaurant.

After the local elections in 2003, the CDU and the voter community WdGN ( community of voters of the Neuwittenbek community ) each had five seats of the 13 seats in the community council , the SPD had three.
Of the 13 seats in the municipal council, the WdGN community of voters had five seats since the 2008 local elections, the CDU and the SPD each had four. After the local elections in 2013, the number of seats changed to 11 and the seat ratio changed as follows: CDU: 3 seats, SPD: 4 seats and WdGN: 4 seats. As of 2018, the distribution of seats will be: CDU: 4 seats, SPD: 4 seats and WdGN: 3 seats.

At TSV Neuwittenbek football, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, gymnastics, badminton, multisport and sport shooting are offered. The club became known nationwide in 2007/08 for its floorball / floorball team. Since 2004, it has been participating in various leagues. The greatest success of the men's team to date after various successes in the national and regional leagues was the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season and the 2nd Bundesliga (West) in the 2008/09 season. The youth teams also dominated the 2008/09 season at state level and were able to conclude their seasons victorious.
Personalities
The motorcycle track rider Stephan Katt ("Catman") (born September 15, 1979) grew up in Neuwittenbek and lives there.
