Path research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Path research is a term from organizational theory and thus from business administration .

Path research examines the theory of path dependency in relation to organizational and strategic processes, that is, to not fully controllable (emergent) processes in and between organizations .

Organizational path dependencies and the associated inertia (persistence, lock-in) are analyzed for the purpose of change within and between organizations. In this way, a number of known problems in business research, such as structural inertia, cost retirement and unwillingness to reform, are re-examined and a systematic explanation is made possible. In this context, the possibilities and limits of path breaking as well as path creation or efficient path control are examined.
