The Verbandsgemeinde Pirmasens-Land was re-established in 1972, like all the association communities in the then administrative district Rheinhessen-Pfalz , on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate". Until then, the administrative structures originating from the Palatinate (Bavaria) (1816-1946) existed.

Association municipal council

The Verbandsgemeinderat Pirmasens-Land consists of 28 voluntary council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairperson.

mayor

The later mayor of Pirmasens, Bernhard Matheis , was elected mayor of the association in 1994. His successor was Roland Haag (FWG), who was confirmed in an election at the beginning of 2000, after Matheis moved to Mayor of Pirmasens in 1999. The current mayor of the association is Silvia Seebach after the election on November 4, 2007, who was sworn in on March 15, 2008. Silvia Seebach was the first female mayor of an association municipality in the district of Südwestpfalz. In the election on November 22, 2015, she was confirmed in her office with 83.59% of the votes.

The description of the coat of arms reads: "In a shield border in blue divided eight times by silver and red, a lion divided nine times by silver and red, holding a golden shield with three red rafters in his paws."

The coat of arms was approved by the Neustadt district government in 1978 and, with the rafters of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg and the Hessian lion, refers to the historical rule.
