history
The two previous municipalities Thaleischweiler-Fröschen and Wallhalben were created in 1972 as part of the first functional and territorial reform in Rhineland-Palatinate . Previously, the administrative structures originating from the Palatinate (Bavaria) (1816–1946) essentially applied in the then administrative district of Palatinate .
On September 28, 2010, the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. With regard to the municipalities, it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009), otherwise they should be amalgamated with neighboring municipalities by the 2014 local elections. The community of Thaleischweiler-Fröschen had 11,045 inhabitants on the reporting date, the community of Wallhalben 7,537. The so-called voluntary phase ended on June 30, 2012. A voluntary association did not come about within this period.
In the “State law on the formation of the new Thaleischweiler-Fröschen - Wallhalben community” of December 20, 2013, the two previous communities were dissolved on July 1, 2014. At the same time, a new community association was formed from its 20 communities. The new municipality is temporarily called "Thaleischweiler-Fröschen - Wallhalben", the final name will be determined by the responsible state ministry within a year. The seat of the new community is Thaleischweiler-Fröschen.
The Verbandsgemeinde Wallhalben filed a legal review application to the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate against the merger because it saw its municipal guarantee of self-government violated. In November 2015, the Constitutional Court ruled that the formation of the Thaleischweiler-Fröschen - Wallhalben community was constitutional.
Effective 1 January 2016 the name of the municipality by decision of was minister of the interior, sports and infrastructure Roger Lewentz of association of municipalities Thaleischweiler-Fröschen - Wallhalben to municipality Thaleischweiler-Wallhalben changed.
