About this picture

Reifenberg is a municipality in the district of Südwestpfalz in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Thaleischweiler-Wallhalben community .

geography

Reifenberg is located on the Sickinger Höhe on a ridge north of the Schwarzbachtal . The Pottschütthöhe with an airfield is located 2 km southeast of the village in the Rieschweiler district, the hamlet Stockbornerhof not far from it on the edge of the forest.

history

A castle existed at least since the middle of the 13th century. Reifenberg was first mentioned in 1447 when Duke Stephan von Pfalz-Zweibrücken acquired this and neighboring villages from the Counts of Homburg. From then on, Reifenberg shared the fate of Pfalz-Zweibrücken. It is believed to have originated when the residents of the former villages of Bettingen, Brenwiler and Kellingen moved here.

After the Stockbornerhof was built in 1766, a small settlement developed.

politics

Municipal council

The council in Reifenberg consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman. In 2004 and 2009 the council members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.

The distribution of seats in the municipal council:

choice SPD CDU FWG total
2019 Majority vote 12 seats
2014 Majority vote 12 seats
2009 3 8th 1 12 seats
2004 2 9 1 12 seats

Pirmin Zimmer (CDU) became the local mayor of Reifenberg on August 1, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 51.79% of the vote. Zimmer's predecessor was Michaela Hüther (CDU), who held the office for 20 years.

coat of arms

The description of the coat of arms reads: "Split from red and black by an ascending, curved tip roughened with silver and blue, on the right a blue armored and -tipped silver lion, on the left a red-armored and -tipped golden lion, both facing each other."

It was awarded in 1964 by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior .

The silver lion comes from the coat of arms of the Counts of Homburg. The golden lion and the white and blue diamonds are borrowed from the coat of arms of the Wittelsbach family , the ruling family of Pfalz-Zweibrücken.

Culture and sights

The Aero-Club Pirmasens airfield is located in the Rieschweiler district, south of the Stockbornerhof.

The Stockbornerhof itself with its restaurant is an excursion destination. A hiking trail leads over the Auerbacher Berg towards Zweibrücken with several branches in side valleys.

Häselberg Memorial Chapel

The war memorial chapel, built in 1925, is often photographed due to its picturesque location on the Häselberg and has graced calendar pages several times.

The village festival in Reifenberg, which took place every year on the second weekend in August until 2014, was very popular; since 2015 this has been replaced by the unofficial, scaled-down summer festival on the same weekend.

The Reifenberger Sportheim is used for social events.
