Battweiler is a municipality in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Zweibrücken-Land .
geography
Battweiler is located in the Palatinate region on the Sickinger Höhe on a ridge between Auerbachtal and Schwarzbachtal . The Kühkopf with 357 m above sea level. NHN is a prominent elevation within the municipality. Battweiler also includes the Birkenbacherhof, Hanghof and Wiesenhof residential areas . The extreme west of the district extends as far as the Auerbach . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Winterbach , Reifenberg , Contwig , Zweibrücken and Großbundenbach .
history
Battweiler was first mentioned in 1278. Until 1449 the place was jointly owned by the knights Flach zu Schwarzenberg and the Teutonic Order of Einsiedeln .
The village Battweiler belonged to the Zweibrücken Oberamt Zweibrücken until the end of the 18th century and was assigned to the Niederauerbach mayor's office .
In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine was occupied in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the First French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the First French Empire, Battweiler belonged to the canton of Zweibrücken in the Donnersberg department and was subordinate to the Mairie Winterbach . In 1802 there were 269 inhabitants, 200 of them Reformed , 54 Lutherans and Catholics .
Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area first came to Austria in June 1815 and was ceded to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of a state treaty . Under the Bavarian administration Battweiler belonged from 1817 to the state commissioner in Zweibrücken in the Rhine district , from 1862 to the district office of Zweibrücken .
In 1939 Battweiler was incorporated into the Zweibrücken district. After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the Palatinate administrative district in the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate . As part of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , she moved to the Pirmasens district in 1972 (from 1997 district of Südwestpfalz ) ; in the same year it was assigned to the newly created community of Zweibrücken-Land .

The Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer and are subordinate to the deanery of Pirmasens , the Protestants to the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . In 1818 the previously independent Protestant parish in Battweiler, which had been founded in 1736, was assigned to that of Winterbach. There was already a church on site at the beginning of the 14th century, which was demolished in 1906.

Local mayor
Werner Veith from the SPD became mayor of Battweiler in 2004. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 65.54 percent.

The district road 76 , which connects with Zweibrücken and Reifenberg, runs right through Battweiler . In the middle of the settlement area, Die Kreisstraße 75 branches off to Niederhausen . Pirmasens airfield is located about two and a half kilometers southeast of Battweiler . The closest train stop is Contwig along the Landau – Rohrbach railway line .

Honorary citizen
- March 1931: Konrad Loschky, on the occasion of his retirement. Loschky worked as a teacher in Battweiler from 1888 to 1931. In addition, he was administrator of the local savings and loan fund, organist in the church, cattle and chicken farmer, beekeeper, hunter and recorder at the council meetings of the community.
