Walshausen is a municipality in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Zweibrücken-Land .
geography
Walshausen is located on the Felsalb in the Zweibrücker hill country between Zweibrücken in the west and Pirmasens in the east.
history
Walshausen was first mentioned as Walshusen in 1463 . The submerged village of Felsalben was named Felsalbia as early as 888 in a deed of donation from the Frankish King Arnulf .
In 1730 Walshausen bought the ban on the village of Felsalben from Duke Gustav Samuel Leopold von Pfalz-Zweibrücken . After lawsuits with neighboring communities, the purchase was finally recognized on November 28, 1735 and the land was distributed among the Walshausen families.
Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken .
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 the village belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Neuhornbach . Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange contract with Austria , the region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 . From 1818 the municipality of Walshausen was assigned to the Zweibrücken regional commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine district , later to the Zweibrücken district office, from which the Zweibrücken district emerged in 1938 . Since 1972 Walshausen has belonged to the then newly formed community of Zweibrücken-Land and since 1997 to the district of Südwestpfalz .
The formerly important Walshauser mill was demolished during the construction of the West Wall in 1938.
