The Felsalb is an almost 18 km long tributary of the Hornbach . The Felsalb with its tributaries contributes to the drainage of the western area around Pirmasens and the eastern Zweibrücker hill country .
geography
course
The Felsalb rises in the south of the Pirmasens urban area at the upper end of the Simter valley in the Gewann In der Waltersbach and flows southwest to Niedersimten , where it takes up the Gersbach from the left . Here it bends in a north-westerly direction and flows from the Katzen- or Littersbacher mill between wooded steep slopes past the Rehmühle , Schelermühle (both first mentioned in 1626) and the Eichelsbacher mill . The Vinninger Bach flows here from the left . A little downstream, the Hexenklamm rises to the right , a gorge criss-crossed by waterfalls. Where the water-rich Blümelsbach joins the hamlet of Dusenbrücken from the right, the Felsalb turns due west. The A 8 can be seen above on the right . The widened valley is now more open, the slopes are still wooded. In this section, the road between the small town of Hornbach and Pirmasens also runs through the Felsalbtal. The Felsalb passes Walshausen . At the Kirschbachermühle , the Felsalb flows from the right into the Hornbach , which flows to the Schwarzbach , which in turn flows into the Blies .

history
For centuries, the important salt road from the Lorraine saltworks area near Dieuze to the Rhine crossed the Felsalb near Dusenbrücken . The fact that the water has a very old name is shown by the place Felsalbia , mentioned in 888 , which no longer exists today.
tourism
The very sparsely populated Felsalbtal is also of interest to tourists. Even if the preferred destination for hikers and cyclists is the Hexenklamm, they can follow the trail markings that are maintained by the Palatinate Forest Association along the entire length of the valley . Several mills are managed and some offer overnight accommodation.
