history
Development until the beginning of the 19th century
The village of Clausen belonged to the margraviate of Baden until the end of the 18th century . In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine was occupied in the First Coalition War.
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Clausen was incorporated into the canton of Waldfischbach in the Donnersberg department and was subordinate to Mairie Merzalben .
Emergency landing on a historic balloon flight
The aviation pioneer and inventor of the frameless parachute André-Jacques Garnerin (1769-1823) completed a 395 km balloon flight between Paris and Clausen on November 22nd and 23rd, 1807 . The balloon and parachute pioneer made the unforeseen emergency landing in Clausen when he noticed that his long-distance journey from Paris to Switzerland had become an odyssey. His gondola was slightly damaged during the emergency landing. The balloon cover and gondola were brought from Clausen to Zweibrücken by horse and cart . From there he started the journey home to Paris with his equipment by stagecoach.
Further development
Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area first came to Austria in June 1815 and was ceded to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of a state treaty . Under the Bavarian administration, Klausen belonged - as it was spelled at the time - to the Pirmasens Land Commissioner in the Rhine District from 1817 and to the Pirmasens District Office from 1862.
In 1939 Clausen was incorporated into the district of Pirmasens (from 1997 district of Südwestpfalz ) . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the Palatinate administrative district in the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place became part of the newly created Verbandsgemeinde Rodalben .
