The Rodalb , also called Rodalbe , is a nearly 26 km long flowing water in the district of Südwestpfalz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) and a left tributary of the Schwarzbach .
Surname
The origin of the name of the water body has not been clearly established. The Celts who lived here in the Latène period described rivers or streams as alb . There are two explanations for the part of the name Rod , sometimes also Roth . On the one hand the red sand of the river bed could be the name giver, on the other hand the fact that in the valley floodplains the clearing (rotting) of the forests created large meadows and arable land.
course
The Rodalb rises in the southwestern Palatinate Forest south of the town of Pirmasens near the hamlet of Rodalberhof at an altitude of about 380 m . Its source is marked with the knight's stone no. 209. First, the water flows to the northeast and passes the local communities Lemberg with the Lemberger Weiher , a small woog , and Ruppertsweiler . Then the Rodalb turns north, accompanies the Bundesstraße 10 for 2 km and flows through Münchweiler . In the district of Riegelbrunnerhof , it takes its strongest inflow from the right, the 12 km long Merzalbe, and changes direction again, this time to the northwest. It flows through the small town of Rodalben . At the hamlet of Biebermühle , it flows into the Schwarzbach from the left at around 243 m above sea level .
