At the end of the 18th century, Saalstadt became part of the French Donnersberg department and belonged to the canton of Waldfischbach . From 1816 the community, like the entire Palatinate, belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and was assigned to the Pirmasens Land Commissioner (since 1862 district office, since 1938 district ) in the Rhine district . In 1828 the village with the Erlenmühle had a total of 260 inhabitants, of which 247 were Protestants, 9 Catholics and 4 Jews. coat of arms

Coat of arms until 2011
Old coat of arms of Saalstadt
Blazon : "Split by silver and red, on the right a green branch, on the left a silver eagle."

It was approved by the Neustadt district government on April 2, 1970 .

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is supposed to combine the name interpretation in the form of a willow branch with a symbol for the former rule. Salstadt belonged to the Leiningen family in the Old Kingdom, but instead of the silver Leininger eagle in blue, that of the Lords of Dahn was awarded.

Coat of arms of Saalstadt

The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior, Sports and Infrastructure approved a new coat of arms in February 2011. The new coat of arms now contains a green oak branch on a silver background instead of the green branch of a willow tree . The reason for the change of the coat of arms were new research results, which refute the previously assumed origin of the name Saalstadt from the local occurrence of the Salweide. In addition, the tincture of the eagle was changed. If it is still shown in silver on a red background in the old coat of arms, the new coat of arms shows it in silver on a blue background. The reason for the change was the reference to the former affiliation of Saalstadt to the rule of the Counts of Leiningen and their coat of arms.
