The Evangelical Church in Battweiler is a church in the church district ( deanery ) Zweibrücken of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . It is listed in the directory of cultural monuments of the district of Südwestpfalz .

history

In a deed of donation from 1311 there is the first mention of a church in Battweiler, which was consecrated to St. Margaretha . Battweiler is listed as a church location in a visitation protocol for the diocese of Metz from 1686.

The establishment of an Evangelical Lutheran parish in Battweiler, to which 32 villages and individual farms belonged, took place in 1736. In the course of the union of the Lutheran and Reformed Church in the Palatinate (Bavaria) in 1818, the until then Lutheran parish Battweiler became a branch assigned to the Protestant parish of Winterbach .

In 1906 the medieval church was demolished and replaced by the current church. The inauguration of the new church, in the construction of which many members of the local community were involved, took place on November 7, 1907. The construction costs amounted to 65,000 marks.

Architecture and equipment

The Protestant church in Battweiler is a neo - Gothic two - nave hall church . The five-sided polygonal choir comes from the medieval predecessor church. The bell tower with a pointed helmet is in the gable constant integrated main facade.

There are three leaded glass windows in the choir . The organ of the church is placed in the aisle . The original organ is located on a gallery above the main entrance portal .
