Location of Borschemich (new) in the Rhenish lignite district
|
Borschemich (new) (official spelling), but also sometimes called Neu-Borschemich , is a district of Erkelenz , Heinsberg district , in North Rhine-Westphalia , which has been emerging since 2006 . The place was built due to the demolition of the previous place Borschemich in connection with the Garzweiler opencast mine .
location
In the north, Neu-Borschemich borders on Flassenberg, Isengraben and Rath-Anhoven (all districts of Wegberg ), in the north-east on Mönchengladbach-Herrath , in the south-east on Mennekrath , in the south on the core town of Erkelenz and in the west on Oerath . The Mennekrath waterworks is also located in the northeast .
history
Since 2006, the previous village of Borschemich, about ten kilometers away, has been relocated. The symbolic beginning of the resettlement was the groundbreaking on March 17, 2006 at the new location. This gave the go-ahead for the development of the approximately 34 hectare resettlement site Erkelenz-Nord for the resettlement of Borschemich. After creating the infrastructure (development measures, supply lines, etc.) in 2006 and 2007, the Seiler-Thelen family was the first building owner to start a new building as the first resettlers to Borschemich (new). The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place here on May 8, 2007. The names of the streets were taken from the old village of Borschemich, to distinguish them with a “-new” at the end, for example: “St.-Martinus-Straße -new”. The existing Borschemich nurseries were allocated an area along the B 57 .
At the request of the Aachen diocese, a Catholic church was no longer built in the new location, instead "a sacred space". Since January 1st, 2009 the place belongs to the neighboring parish of St. Lambertus in Erkelenz as a chapel parish of St. Martinus Borschemich. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Martinus Chapel took place on December 15, 2013. After construction progress, the topping-out ceremony and the laying of a foundation stone took place on June 22, 2014. The chapel was completed in 2015 and consecrated on May 3, 2015 by the Aachen auxiliary bishop Johannes Bündgens .
The Borschemich cemetery was also "relocated", and the existing graves were relocated from November 2010. The new cemetery complex is provided with entrances, fences and a cemetery wall. Of the other infrastructure, the football field, public green spaces, paths and playground bays were officially opened. The new building of a multi-purpose hall with public spaces was inaugurated and handed over on January 7, 2012.

Attractions
As part of the resettlement, it was planned to preserve some of the cultural and soil monuments of the previous place and to rebuild them in the new place. When the new cemetery was built, some historic old grave slabs and tombs were already embedded in the new cemetery wall.
Further measures are currently still in the planning phase; z. B. Construction of the Lourdes grotto, crucifixion group, memorial from 1936 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the brotherhood , cenotaph, war memorial grotto or the reconstruction of old crosses that were previously on the local roads (crosses Heyers , Dappen, Beeck ).
As a new landmark of the place, a linden tree was planted again on May 4, 2011 at the fork in St.-Martinus-Straße -neu- and Linde Borschemich -neu- . As the first of the wayside crosses, the cross was transferred from the village of Borschemich to Borschemich (new) and consecrated on June 2, 2012.
