The Beeck wayside cross was originally a religious place of worship in the former Borschemich district of Erkelenz . The land monument was erected in 1880 by the couple Wilhelm Theodor and Josepha Lörkens on their farm, the so-called Pitter-Dores-Hof .

Since Borschemich was located in the mining area of the Garzweiler opencast mine and had to give way to it, Borschemich (new) was created in the north of Erkelenz and west of Mennekrath . The wayside cross was dismantled, stored and restored in May 2013. The construction at the new place on the street »In Borschemich« took place in June 2014. The ceremonial blessing took place on the occasion of the early fair of the St. Martinus Schützenbruderschaft Borschemich eV on June 15, 2014.

description

The wayside cross is a stone cross in neo-Gothic style with floral ornaments also on the sides. It stands on a base with an end profile and an inscription block, with attached end cap , integrated console and attached cross base. The cross bars are strongly rounded and decorated with eight pointed noses. The body was renewed in the mid-1980s. The cross stands on four steps and is painted cream white and has a wrought-iron enclosure.

The cross was part of the yard on the corner of St.-Martinus-Straße and Marienstiftstraße on the former property of the brothers Peter and Theodor Lörkens. The farm has been owned by the Beeck family since 1913. Because of its local historical significance, the wayside cross was placed under legal protection as a monument .
