history

In 1636 it is reported that the St. Martinus shooting society Borschemich exists. It was the time of the chaos of the Reformation . Borschemich is not far from Wickrath Land, and the Lords of Quadt had adopted the new faith , and with them the land of the Wickrath Lordship that belonged to them . So the Corpus Christi day of 1636 had come, and in neighboring Otzenrath the religious split had also separated the residents who otherwise lived peacefully together. In their distress and to protect the endangered Holy of Holies , the Otzenrathers, who had remained true to the old faith, asked the neighboring St. Martinus riflemen for help, and with neighborly sentiments they rushed to them and made a significant contribution to settling the dispute that had arisen. The fact that they took over a substantial rye rent on their property in favor of the Otzenrath Church, which was replaced towards the end of the 20th century, also testifies to the Christian community spirit of the Borschemicher.
