Heyers crossroads in the Borschemich district of Erkelenz

The Heyers wayside cross was originally a land monument in the Borschemich district of Erkelenz . It was built in 1886 as a place of worship on the Heyers family farm on the corner of St.-Martinus-Str./Otzenrather Straße.

Since Borschemich was located in the mining area of the Garzweiler opencast mine and had to give way, the crossroads was dismantled and stored in May 2013. The construction at a new location in Borschemich (new) should take place soon (as of June 7, 2013).

The lettering is designed as a chronogram , i.e. H. In addition to the content of your text (see above), it also provides the time of its posting in a special form. If you add up the numerical values of the letters, which can also be read as Roman numerals and which are highlighted as capital letters on the inscription panel, you get the year of the erection of this cross (1886).

The 23 Roman numerals hidden in the inscription are:

CIDLVIDDVVICIIIIVIICI-IV (1886)
