Johannes Bündgens (born April 2, 1956 in Eschweiler ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Aachen .

Life

After high school at the Municipal School Eschweiler John Bündgens studied from 1974 Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . For Deacon , he was born on March 24, 1979 consecrated . On October 10, 1980, he received the sacrament of ordination through Joseph Cardinal Schröffer in Rome . From 1981 to 1985 Bündgens was chaplain at St. Cornelius in Viersen - Dülken . In November 1985 he was released for a doctoral degree at the Gregorian. On March 15, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Árd Carna and auxiliary bishop in Aachen . The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Heinrich Mussinghoff on 20 May 2006 at the Aachen Cathedral ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Gerd Dicke and Karl Borsch . On the occasion of his episcopal ordination, Bündgens chose the motto Mysterium magnum Ecclesia (“The great secret - The Church”), which comes from the Letter to the Ephesians ( Eph 5.32  EU ). Since May 20, 2006 he has also been the Cathedral Chapter of the Aachen Cathedral Chapter and since June 1 of the same year chairman of the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Aachen and Episcopal Vicar for the Caritas system.

Bündgens is chairman of the board of directors of the international catholic mission organization missio eV based in Aachen. In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Commission for Education and Schools as well as the Commission for the Universal Church and its sub-commission for development issues (especially MISEREOR) .

He is an honorary member of the KD St. V. Ascania Bonn (CV).

Johannes Bündgens has been resigning all offices since December 2019. The public prosecutor's office in Cologne carried out investigations against him on suspicion of embezzlement and brought charges in this regard to the Kerpen district court. Bündgens is said to have received a power of attorney for her account from a possibly incompetent senior citizen and used this to transfer a total of 127,000 euros from this account to his private account between December 2017 and January 2018. Bündgens is said to have stated that in return he granted the woman a lifelong right to live in a property he had acquired in Aachen. However, there is no written agreement on this.
