Gerd Dicke (Bishop)

Ernst Franz Gerd Werner Dicke (born March 28, 1928 in Erfurt ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in the diocese of Aachen .

Life

After graduating from Heinrich-Mann-Gymnasium Erfurt in 1946, Gerd Dicke studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Fulda , Munich and Aachen . On 25 July 1952 he received the Aachen Cathedral , the priesthood by Bishop John Joseph van der Velden . From 1952 to 1954 he was chaplain at St. Notburga in Viersen , from 1954 to 1957 religious teacher at the St. Angela School in Düren and from 1957 to 1970 at the Arndt Gymnasium in Krefeld , most recently as a senior teacher. At the same time he worked as a subsidiar to St. Thomas More in Krefeld. In July 1959, his was carried Promotion to Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Cologne .

On February 16, 1970, Pope Paul VI appointed him . auxiliary bishop in Aachen and titular bishop of Iria Flavia . He received his episcopal ordination on April 11, 1970 in Aachen Cathedral by Bishop Johannes Pohlschneider ; Co- consecrators were the Aachen auxiliary bishop Joseph Ludwig Buchkremer and the emeritus bishop of Helsinki , Willem Petrus Bartholomaeus Cobben . In 1973 he became cathedral capitular , on June 1, 1977 first chairman of the Diocesan Charity Association and on October 1, 1989 Episcopal Vicar for Caritas. In the German Bishops' Conference he was a member of the commissions for education and school as well as for universal church tasks, in whose sub-commission for missionary issues he was chairman from 1980 to 1992. After the death of Bishop Klaus Hemmerle , he headed the diocese of Aachen as diocesan administrator from January 23, 1994 to February 10, 1995. On November 21, 2003 he was retired as auxiliary bishop.

The heraldic shield contains a black cross on a gold background - the diocese coat of arms of Aachen -, in the middle shield a black cross on a silver background, accompanied by a golden lecture cross and above the green pontifical hat ( Galero ) with six green tassels ( fiocchi ) each as heraldic bishop's insignia.

His motto is Domino servientes spe gaudentes (“In the service of the Lord, glad in hope”) ( Rom 12: 11-12  EU ).
