Heinrich Hahn

Heinrich Joseph Hubert Hahn (born August 29, 1800 in Aachen ; † March 11, 1882 there ) was a member of the Prussian state parliament and founder of the German Franziskus Xaverius Association .

Life

Heinrich Hahn received a humanistic education from 1807 at the primary school and from 1810 at the secondary school in Aachen and from 1812 at the Bonapartist-imperial Lyceum in Bonn and at the Royal Athenaeum in Brussels. He then studied medicine in Ghent from 1818 to 1822 (doctorate in 1822). After a period as a regimental surgeon in Berlin, registered as a volunteer in 1823, he passed the Prussian state examination and received his license to practice medicine in 1824. As a resident doctor and spa doctor in Aachen, where he worked as a doctor at the Josephine Institute from 1833 and also became literary, from 1834 he organized the expansion of the Xaverius Association in Germany. The association to support the Catholic mission was founded in France in 1822 (by Pauline Marie Jaricot ). In 1837 Heinrich Hahn obtained ecclesiastical approval for a brotherhood of St. Franz Xaver , in 1842 the Franziskus-Xaverius-Verein received both state and church approval. From Aachen, the organization quickly spread to all German dioceses . From it emerged the International Catholic Missionswerk missio , the papal missionary organization in Germany.

In addition to his profession as a doctor, Heinrich Hahn was a city ​​councilor in Aachen from 1846 until shortly before his death and a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1859 to 1861 , where he was particularly involved in questions of social policy . Heinrich Hahn found his final resting place in Aachen's Ostfriedhof .

The founding document of the Franziskus-Xaverius-Verein dated December 7, 1841 and Heinrich Hahn's correspondence from 1834 to 1877 are now in the mission library and Catholic documentation center ( Mikado ) in Aachen.

Beatification process

Heinrich Hahn was already in the reputation of holiness during his lifetime. missio and the Diocese of Aachen have been trying for many years to the beatification of Henry Hahn. On December 17, 2015, Pope Francis confirmed the heroic degree of virtue as a preliminary stage.
