Life

Fina came from a poor family. Even as a child, she shared the little food that was available to her with other needy people. She led a monastic life in her parents' home . As she was of a weak constitution, she suffered many diseases. Fina died at the age of fifteen in the reputation of holiness and was buried in the cathedral of San Gimignano. Her own chapel is consecrated there in the aisle . The veneration of Fina is locally limited to the area of San Gimignano, but the entire Roman Catholic Church commemorates her in the Martyrologium Romanum , where she is named as Blessed on March 12th. In San Gimignano the artists Benedetto Maiano , Domenico Ghirlandaio , Lorenzo di Niccolo di Pietro Gerini and Benozzo Gozzoli created world-class works of art with depictions from the life of Blessed Fina. Fina is called "The Saint with the Levkoy " because, according to legend, these flowers bloomed on the city towers and on her coffin on the day of her death .
