Herrath is a district in the south-west of Mönchengladbach with around 650 inhabitants and belonged to the Wickrath district , which became part of the new West district on October 22, 2009 . The center of the village is Emil-Esser-Platz .

history
Herrath was built as Hoerath, that is, clearing on the height, on the watershed of Niers and Schwalm . Other earlier spellings are Heraidt and Herraide. In 1975 Herrath was incorporated into the city of Mönchengladbach as part of the Wickrath community .
The Herrath School was built in 1824 and rebuilt in 1890. In March 1964 the school service was discontinued with the retirement of the teacher Rudolf Hildebrandt.

In contrast to the surrounding area, Wickrathberg, Beckrath and Herrath are evangelical and are united in the evangelical parish of Wickrathberg. The catholic pastoral care district Herrath / Beckrath, like Wickrathberg, belongs to the catchment area of the Wickrath parish of St. Antonius.

The next motorway junctions are Mönchengladbach-Güdderath on the A 61 and Erkelenz-Ost on the A 46 .

The Herrath stop on the Aachen – Mönchengladbach railway line is a border station between the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV) and the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR).
Companies
The largest company on site is Krings Fruchtsaft GmbH, founded here in 1954 . The company produces over 3 million beverage units a day at the Herrath, Erftstadt and Heerlen locations and employs around 230 people. The company has been part of the Dutch Refresco Holding Group since 2000 .
Public facilities
In Herrath there is a unit of the Mönchengladbach volunteer fire brigade and a day care center as well as the Catholic meeting place Christ the King. A Protestant parish house was demolished in 2015.
