history

The company's history goes back to the predecessor company Menken Beverages, which was created in 1999 as a management buy-out from the companies Menken Drinks and Refrescos de Sur Europa SA, which were sold by the Dutch dairy group Campina Melkunie. In 2000, Menken Beverages acquired the previously family-run Krings Fruchtsaft GmbH in Mönchengladbach-Herrath . Refresco Holding was founded with production sites in the Netherlands , Spain and Germany .

In 2002 the German Hardthof Fruchtsaft GmbH and the French Délifruits SA (specializing in cold aseptic filling in PET bottles ) were taken over. In the following year, Refresco took over the Spanish company Interfruit Vital SA in order to secure the supply of orange direct juice and access to the fruit juice market in the Iberian Peninsula. In addition, the British private equity company 3i joined Refresco as the majority shareholder.

In 2004 Refresco acquired VIP-Juicemaker in Finland , thereby expanding its production capacity in Scandinavia . In 2006 3i sold its stake in Refresco to an Icelandic investor consortium. Further acquisitions followed in the years to come - Soft Drinks International (SDI) in Germany in 2010, acquisitions in Italy in 2011 and Taja in Poland in 2012.

In 2013 Refresco merged with Gerber Emig. The European competition authority approved the takeover with the condition that the Emig plant in Waibstadt be sold. The work was sold to riha WeserGold Getränke. On March 27, 2015, Refresco became a public company with a listing on the Euronext Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

In 2016 the Dutch contract filler Dranken Industrie Sittard BV (DIS) was taken over. In May 2016, RefrescoGerber changed its name to Refresco Group. In July 2016, Refresco took the first step into North America by taking over the bottler Whitlock Packaging . The following year the takeover of the bottling activities from Cott was announced. With the largest single acquisition in the company's history to date, Refresco rose to become the world's largest independent bottler after closing in January 2018. Also in 2018, the Refresco Group was founded by a consortium consisting of PAI partners and British Columbia Investment Management Corp. accepted. As a result, Refresco was taken off the stock exchange and converted into a BV .
