Genehen is a hamlet in the southern city of Erkelenz ( Kreis Heinsberg ). It has been part of Erkelenz since 1972.

geography

Approach is on the edge of the Erkelenzer Börde . The Baal Riedel landscape begins to the southwest . In the south of the village there is a forest area on pseudogley , waterlogged soils.

location

To the north is the hamlet of Commerden , to the east is Bellinghoven , to the southeast is Tenholt , to the southwest is Granterath and to the west is the hamlet of Scheidt .

history

In 1558, Geneden was named in a document. The prefix Gen- is derived from a preposition and an article: an gen (= to that, to). The place name contains the word -neder, it denotes a valley or depression.
