Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Dalheim Station is a train station in the district Dalheim the town Wegberg in Westphalia North Rhine- Kreis Heinsberg . The station was an important border station to the Netherlands and separation station of the route from Jülich from the Iron Rhine .
The Jülich – Dalheim railway line from Dalheim to Ratheim station has now been dismantled and the Iron Rhine between Dalheim and Roermond is closed, so that the station is currently only a terminus of a regional train . The reactivation of the Iron Rhine was discussed at times .
history
Of particular importance for Dalheim's local history was the completion of the cross-border railway line known as the Iron Rhine , which has connected the Ruhr area with the port of Antwerp since 1879 . Many emigrants to the United States left Germany by train via Dalheim. In 1911, the border station was therefore expanded to include a hall for emigrants from Germany or Eastern Europe, as they had to wait until a ship was available in Antwerp at the border for their onward journey.
In 1909 the line between Dalheim and Rheydt is expanded to double tracks.
On December 15, 1911, the Jülich – Dalheim railway line was opened, which ended at the eastern head of the station, directly at the Df signal box. This made the station a separation station . The track in the direction of Jülich was given its own bypass track and a platform with a waiting hall.
After the First World War , emigration decreased and the station lost its importance in national passenger traffic.
As a border station in the Netherlands, there were originally extensive freight tracks that were used for customs clearance.
There was a goods shed with an attached ramp. There was also a small depot in Dalheim with a locomotive shed, water tower and coal shed . The locomotive treatment facilities were abandoned and demolished in 1969, and the water tower was blown up in 1974.
The station building is no longer preserved today. It was damaged in a fire in 1979 and subsequently demolished.
In 1993 the goods shed also burned down and was demolished.
For passenger traffic, there was a side platform at the station building that still exists today and an intermediate platform on the adjacent main track in the opposite direction. There was also a side platform and an intermediate platform on the Jülich line. The two parts of the station were connected by a pedestrian underpass.
In 1953 the cross-border passenger traffic and in 1991 the freight traffic to the Netherlands was stopped. On September 27, 1980, passenger traffic in the direction of Hückelhoven-Baal was discontinued, and in 1983 also goods traffic.
Today only the continuous main track of the Iron Rhine and a stump track with a platform to the north of it, where the railcars stop. There is no longer any possibility of implementation. A bus shelter and a ticket machine are available for travelers on the platform. In addition to these systems, the interlocking Df together with the associated form signals has been preserved. The signal box Dw, which used to be at the western head of the station, has now been torn down.
