The König-Heinrich-Platz underground station is an underground station in the independent city of Duisburg . It is part of the Duisburg light rail network and is located in a tunnel with direct access to Forum Duisburg and an underground car park. The underground station belongs to the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG). The platforms are arranged on two levels in line operation, ie Kpo for lines U79 and 903, Kpu for line 901. If a train ends there, it uses the lower level (Kpu) to get into the sweeping system.
The station was artistically designed by Gerhard Richter . A protective bunker is also integrated in the underground station.
In an emergency, this protective bunker would have provided space for 4,500 people. In addition to a shelter, 16 trams would have been parked in the station to accommodate more people. The bunker could be sealed gas-tight via gates in the tunnel and at the entrances. In addition, the bunker has an independent power, water and fresh air supply.
Since the barrier-free expansion of the stop, which also included the installation of an elevator, this protective function of the bunker is no longer given, as the upper concrete ceiling had to be broken through for the elevator.
