The Nordstraße underground station is a tunnel station for the Düsseldorf light rail system . It is located on the northern route north of the city center of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . The underground station is also an important transfer point with the connection to the tram lines running on Fischerstraße . In 2002, the number of people entering, leaving and switching was around 10,000 to 15,000 per working day.
location
The underground station itself is located in a central location north of Düsseldorf city center at the intersection of Fischerstrasse, Kaiserstrasse , Scheibenstrasse and Nordstrasse. It opens up the Nordstrasse shopping street , which gave the station its name and, with its numerous shops, forms a district center.
Station complex
The train station can be reached via escalators . The upper of the two underground levels serves as the distribution level (−1) and leads to the lower platform level (−2). This is where the central platform is located, where the lines in the direction of Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof and in the direction of Duisburg or Merkur Spiel-Arena / Messe Nord stop.
The Düsseldorf subway stations of the first, second and third generation all have almost the same design. The ceilings as well as the floor area are kept dark. A metallic cladding covers the pillars in the middle of the platform, the same material was also used for the station furniture. The beige walls provide a contrast to this dark color scheme. The names of the stops are on the one hand above the information boards in black writing on a white background and on the other hand on the walls. There they are executed in black writing on a white background, accompanied by wine-red lines above and below the writing.
Currently (May 2016) an elevator is being installed at the southern end of the platform. Since Sunday, February 21, the tram stop above has only been served in a southerly direction for around nine months.
traffic
The Nordstraße underground station is located on the first trunk line of the Düsseldorf light rail network. Both lines on this route serve the station. In addition to the transfer options between the individual tram lines, there are other transfer connections to four tram lines that stop at the surface at stops along Fischerstraße / Kaiserstraße and Nordstraße.
The neighboring city and the northern districts of Wittlaer , Kaiserswerth and Lohausen can be reached via the line from Duisburg . The line branching off in Stockum to the Merkur Spiel-Arena connects this as well as the Düsseldorf exhibition center . In the direction of the old town there is a connection to the central transfer point Heinrich-Heine-Allee. There you can change to several bus lines and the so-called Wehrhahn Line . Behind the Düsseldorf Hbf transfer station , which links the Stadtbahn with the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn and other connections in regional and long-distance traffic, the southeastern districts of Oberbilk and Wersten , as well as the Heinrich Heine University and connected to the botanical garden .
The U78 line is operated by the Düsseldorf Rheinbahn alone, the U79 line together with the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG). High-floor light rail vehicles of the type B80D are used on both lines . On the U79 line, there are also B80C cars operated by the Duisburg transport company.
In the local transport plan 2002–2007 of the state capital Düsseldorf the introduction of a new light rail line U80 is planned. For this, the construction of a bypass of the Düsseldorf exhibition center with a new underground station Messe-Süd is necessary. If this measure is to be implemented, the Nordstraße underground station is intended as a stop on this line.
The planning approval procedure for trunk line 5 , on which the U81 is to travel from Düsseldorf Hbf via Heinrich-Heine-Allee and Freiligrathplatz to Düsseldorf Airport , has been running since September 2015 . A new bridge is to be built from Freiligrathplatz over the Nordstern and then a tunnel to the airport terminal with an underground station there. The city plans to start construction in late 2019 [obsolete] and commissioning in 2023 . This line is also supposed to stop at Nordstraße underground station.
