The Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station is a station on the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn . It is located on the first and second trunk line in the city center of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . The under the stone road , built underground station was handed over on May 7, 1988 the traffic and develops since both Germany's famous shopping street Königsallee and the connection to the Berliner Allee trains running tram and bus lines also an important transfer point. In 2002, the number of people entering, leaving and transferring was around 25,000 to 30,000 per working day.

location

The inner city tunnel of the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn runs from the Heinrich-Heine-Allee underground station in an arch under the Königsallee to the Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station below the Steinstraße . The tunnel then continues, crossing Berliner Allee in the direction of the main train station to the Oststraße underground station .

The subway station itself is in a central location in downtown Düsseldorf. The Königsallee is one of the most important shopping streets in Düsseldorf and with its numerous so-called flagship stores and shopping centers such as the Kö-Galerie , the Stilwerk and the Sevens offers a diverse range. In addition, the banking district to the west with various branches of large banks, such as the Deutsche and Dresdner Bank on Königsallee , is in the immediate vicinity.

The Berliner Allee, which runs past to the east, is lined with other important facilities such as the headquarters of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange and the Düsseldorf Stadtsparkasse .

The subway station takes on an important traffic and development function for employees and customers of the surrounding facilities.

history

The main line of the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn was built between 1979 and 1988. The construction of the Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station also fell during this period . In 1985 the shell was completed.

After the opening on May 7, 1988, the station was opened and opened to traffic. Since then there have been discussions about changing the name to Königsallee underground station , but this was not done for reasons of cost.

Station complex

Access from Königsallee

The station has three floors. The top level is the distributor level and leads to the two lower levels. The middle level has a central platform where the lines towards Heinrich-Heine-Allee stop. On the lowest level, there is access to the lines towards Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, also on a central platform . Both platforms are elevated platforms .

The entrances to the underground station are on the western side in Königsallee or Steinstraße and on the eastern side in Berliner Allee. There is also an elevator system in Steinstrasse, which creates a direct connection from the platforms to the surface and makes the station barrier-free .

The entrances on Königsallee each have two escalators , on Steinstrasse only one set of stairs . All three accesses are brought together on the distribution level. From this two staircases with escalators lead to the two levels with the platforms. There are four entrances to Berliner Allee. The southern ones are arranged one behind the other. Here, too, escalators have been installed in both directions in one entrance and a single staircase in the other. The northern entrances lead on the one hand from the western sidewalk, on the other hand directly from the tram stop island to the underground station.

The Düsseldorf subway stations of the first, second and third generation all have almost the same design. The ceilings and walls are black, as is the floor. The pillars in the middle of the platform are clad in silver; the rest of the station furniture is also silver. The beige walls provide a contrast to this restrained color scheme. The names of the stops are displayed above the information boards in black letters on a white background and on the walls. There they are executed in black writing on a white background, accompanied by wine-red lines above and below the writing.

traffic

GT8SU on the U75 line

The Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station is located on the first and second trunk line of the Düsseldorf light rail network. All seven lines operating on these routes serve the station. In addition to the transfer options between the individual tram lines, there are other transfer connections to two trams and a further four bus lines, which stop at above-ground stops along Berliner Allee and connect to the Düsseldorf local transport network.

The neighboring cities on the left bank of the Rhine and the districts of Lörick , Heerdt and Oberkassel can be reached via the express line from Krefeld and the other supplementary lines from Meerbusch and Neuss . The neighboring city and the northern districts of Wittlaer , Kaiserswerth and Lohausen can be reached via the line from Duisburg . The line branching off in Stockum to the ESPRIT arena connects this as well as the Düsseldorf exhibition center . In the direction of the old town there is a connection to the central transfer point Heinrich-Heine-Allee. There you can change to several bus lines and the so-called Wehrhahn Line . Behind the Düsseldorf Hbf transfer station , which connects the Stadtbahn with the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn and other connections in regional and long-distance traffic, the southeastern districts of Lierenfeld , Eller , Oberbilk and Wersten are located in the further course of the first and second trunk route , Holthausen and Benrath , as well as the Heinrich Heine University and the Botanical Garden .

With one exception, all light rail lines are served by the Düsseldorf Rheinbahn alone. This forms the U79 line, which is operated jointly with the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft . For example, high-floor trams of the type B80C run on the U79 line operated by the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft . In addition, as on all other lines, type B80D wagons, also high-floor, are used here. On the U75 line, converted GT8SU vehicles from GT8S trams also run.

In the local transport plan 2002–2007 of the state capital Düsseldorf, the introduction of a new light rail line U80 is planned. For this, the construction of a bypass of the Düsseldorf exhibition center with a new underground station Messe-Süd is necessary. If this measure is to be implemented, the Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station is intended as a stop on this line.

The planning approval procedure for trunk line 5 , on which the U81 is to travel from Düsseldorf Hbf via Heinrich-Heine-Allee and Freiligrathplatz to Düsseldorf Airport , has been running since September 2015 . A new bridge is to be built from Freiligrathplatz over the Nordstern and then a tunnel to the airport terminal with an underground station there. The city plans to start construction in late 2019 [obsolete] and commissioning in 2023 Template: future / in 3 years. This line should also stop at Steinstraße / Königsallee underground station.
